Thank you to everyone that participated in the Original 6 Draft
Tournament - Canmore 2010.
We had a great time, enjoyed the hockey and met
some great new people. We really enjoyed hosting and can’t wait to do it
again next year.
Congratulations to the Toronto Maple Leafs for winning the
Original 6 Championship, the Montreal Canadiens for winning the Canmore Cup and
the Detroit Red Wings for winning the Victoria Cup.
We hope the hangovers are gone and the aches and pains are
healing because we are putting together the final touches on our next
tournament. It is a long time until Canmore 2011, so we thought we would set
something up in between. We will keep you posted.

Proud Sponsor of the NCHL
With over 120 teams and 3,000 players, the Non Contact Hockey League (NCHL) is the largest adult recreational hockey league in the city of Calgary. Running year round, the NCHL welcomes players of all levels - from beginner to AA level - and provides ample recreational and competitive hockey opportunities to the local hockey community.
Hockey Experts has recently burst onto the scene to become the expert destination for Calgary's hockey community, and are proud to partner with the NCHL to help promote participation in organized hockey as a way to get even more Calgarians active in sports. Filled wall-to-wall with skates, sticks, protective, training equipment, fanwear and more, hockey players of all levels know to head to Hockey Experts to stock up on all of the gear they need to play their best. The Top Shelf pro shop offers equipment services like skate sharpening so players can get the most out of their gear - and the most out of their game. They now offer GNC Sports Nutrition Boutiques at Hockey Experts to help fuel the next big game. Most importantly, the associates at Hockey Experts are hockey lovers themselves and are able to offer truly expert service for any player looking to upgrade their gear.
The NCHL and Hockey Experts have built a program for players new to the sport of hockey, the Hockey Experts - NCHL Beginner Program. The classroom sessions are held at Hockey Experts stores and are run by professionally trained Hockey Experts' trainers. The sessions focus on educating new players on the essentials of the game - from the bare necessities like how to fit skates and helmets, to some lesser-known and often forgotten hockey tips, such as how to tape a stick. The in-store classroom sessions are followed by 12 weeks of on ice skill development and scrimmages.
Packed full of information, new players will walk away from the Hockey Experts - NCHL Beginner Program with a head full of essential hockey knowledge and skills, as well as exclusive offers on everything from skate sharpening to the purchase of equipment.
In a gear-heavy sport like hockey, this partnership represents an added incentive for players to get in the game with the best brands and expert service they can only get at Hockey Experts.

A reminder to all teams that there is absolutley no alcohol allowed in the dressing rooms, especially at all city run arenas (i.e. Max Bell Arena, Stu Peppard), the Corral and Okotoks. Any team caught with alcohol in the dressing rooms could be fined under city bylaws and/or could have their ice and the NCHL ice priviledges revoked. All incurred financial costs and fines will be responsibility of the offending team.
This rule is not a 3 strikes rule, and the NCHL will not tolerate any teams drinking in their dressing rooms.

On October 27, 2009, Hockey Canada released their recommendations in the fight against the H1N1 virus. It is the opinion of the NCHL that each and every team in the league follow these recommendations.
These recommendations are as follows:
1.Players should be urged to report all illnesses to their parents and the safety person/trainer. Parents are urged to keep their children away from the hockey environment if they are showing any signs of infectious disease or virus. Sick players are encouraged to see their physician if showing signs or symptoms of the H1N1 virus, and to be fully recovered prior to returning to play.
2.Players should be encouraged to wash hands routinely and always after handling hockey equipment. Frequent hand washing with soap and water is one of the best preventions we can recommend. Teams are encouraged to carry extra hand soap or hand sanitizer as not all arenas have this readily available.
3.Talk to your players about using their arm when covering their mouths and nose when coughing or sneezing as opposed to their hands.
4.Advise players to try and not touch their own mouths or nose when in the hockey environment to reduce the chance of them passing an infection on to themselves.
5.Ensure all players and staff have their own water bottles labeled with names and players numbers. Sport drink bottles should be avoided as direct lip contact is possible when drinking.
6.Officials and coaches should avoid drinking from other water bottles and have water readily available to them on their respective benches.
7.Towels should be removed from all benches. Players should not share towels, clothing, bar soap or other personal items such as razors.
8.Assist athletes in protecting their immune system by stressing they get sufficient sleep, that they do not over train and that they get proper nutrition.
With these recommendations in mind, the NCHL will no longer be supplying water bottles to NCHL games. The administration feels that it is a better solution for all players to have their own bottle at this time.

Jersey Rule Enforcement

As we are now more than 4 weeks into the NCHL season, we will now be enforcing team jerseys. The rule reads as follows:
All teams are required to have both matching Dark (Home) and Light (Away) team jerseys.
A plain jersey consistent in color with the base color of their team’s jerseys will be accepted as a team jersey.
Any jersey with another team logo, or dissimilar in color will not be acceptable.
All players must be wearing team jerseys before the 4th week of the season.
Any players not wearing team jerseys after the 4th week of the season may cause the game to be deemed a forfeit.
All jerseys must have distinct contrasting 8”-12” numbers clearly marked (sewn, screened, sublimated, or heat-sync) on the back.
Taped numbers are not permitted.
If your team has players in the game that are not wearing "team" jerseys you will receive a warning from the NCHL, and after the third warning your game will be entered as a forfeit. To alleviate this, please ensure all players have a team jersey, or that there are suffucuent spare jerseys for your players.
